A GST invoice is a document issued by a supplier of goods or services to the recipient, showing the details of the transaction and the applicable Goods and Services Tax (GST). It serves as proof of supply and is required for claiming input tax credit under GST law in India.
Every registered business or individual supplying taxable goods or services in India must issue a GST invoice. This includes manufacturers, traders, service providers, and e-commerce operators registered under GST.
A standard GST invoice format includes details such as the supplier’s and recipient’s information, invoice number and date, description of goods/services, HSN/SAC codes, quantity, rate, taxable value, GST rates and amounts (CGST, SGST, IGST), and the total invoice value.
